PHOTO BY JIM CULLEN Hays High senior is National Merit Scholarship finalist Hays High School senior~ Helene Thompson, the daughter of Charles and Ma~ Terry Thompson of Buda, has been named a 2011 National Merit Scholarship finalist, one 15,000 high school students nationally to earn the honor. Final- ists compete for National Merit Scholarships to be announced this year. Thompson said she is considering attending South- western Un,ivemity in Georgetown or Rice University in Houston. Financial aid A Financial Aid Saturday is set for this Saturday, Feb. 26, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the Chapa Middle School library. The event will assist seniors, former graduates, or current college students in completing the Free Applica- tion for Federal Students Aid (FAFSA) for next school year. Agency volunteers and Span- ish translators will be avail- able to assist. Seniors should contact their high school counselors for information on items to bring and early registration. Parents and students should bring a copy of their W-2 and income tax forms to complete the FAFSA. All Financial Aid Saturday services are free and open to all seniors.
