Polanco is an air traffic controller assigned to the 12th Operational Support Squadron. His wife, Melissa, i the daughter of Randy Reynaga of Kyle. Marine Corps Cpl. Joseph W. Burleson, son of Karen Hogan of Buda and Freddy Burleson of Bellmead, is currently "deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. He is a 2000 graduate of Hays High School. Navy Seaman Philip D. Coldwell, son of David C. Coldwell of Buda recently completed eight weeks of Navy basic training at Great Lakes, I1. Navy Seaman Santiago M. Longoria, son of Cynthia A. Salazar of Manchaca recently completed eight weeks of Navy basic training at Great Lakes, I1. Army Pvt. Allyn J. Oligher has graduated from the petroleum supply specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, VA. Oligher is the son of John E. and Pamela K. Oligher of Kyle. Melissa Michels was honored recently with a special award from Cadet Class #107 of the Austin Fire Department. The "H.ammer Award" recognizes the individual who displayed out- standing leadership and motivation throughout the training academy. She is from Buda and a 1995 graduate of Hays High School. Michels is working at Station 6, on S. First St. in Austin. ACEC St. Edward's University will recognize grad- uating students in a ceremony on May 10 at the Frank Erwin Center. Fisher, BA all from Kyle The United States Achievement Academy announced that Marcus A. DePena from Buda has been named a United States National Award Winner in English. Marcus is a junior at Hays High School who participetes in the Synergy Program's Honors classes, and was nominated for this national award by Mrs. Marlo Malott, a Lead Synergy and English teacher at the school. He has played football at Hays his freshman, sophomore, and junior years. A past member of the Art and Robotic Club. He was an active member of the Track Team and volunteered his time as a man- ager of the Varsity Soccer Team. Marcus is a member of the Williamson County YMCA Teen Court. In the summer of 2002, Marcus volun- teered his time with the City of Austin Urban League where he advanced his Computer Training skills with the assistance of an IBM employee. He has received additional training in Customer Service and Leadership Skills. Marcus is the son of Mrs. Minnie Padin and Manuel DePena from Buda. Vieki Best of Buda recently graduated from Texas A& M with a BS and a Master in Accounting. She is the daughter of Chuck and Beverley Best and a 1998 graduate of Jack C. Hays High School. After spending the summer traveling to the east coast she will start work for Haliburton Corportation of Dallas in August. Eric Vaughn Roilfiug recently graduated from UT-Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He attended Hays schools from kindergarten through his sophomore year and graduated from the Texas Academy of Math & Science in 2002. He is the son of Robert and Mary Rollfing of Buda. Summer Daugherty of Buda has been named to the President's Scholar list for the spring semester, at Blinn College in Brenham. Austin College recently held commence- ment ceremonies and Jessica Mae Dick gradu- ated with a Computer Science and Communication Arts degree. Officer Joe Munoz, a 19 year APD veteran has been named the 2003 National Citizen Police Academy Coordinator of the Year during special ceremonies held May 8, 2003. In March of this year, Munoz was also presented the "Presidents Award" by the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Joe Munoz is a Kyle resident and a member of the Hays CISD Board of Trustees.
