Hays Free Press • June 19, 2013 NEIGHBORS Page 3C + OBITUARIES, from pg. 2C of Walberg as well as a sister, Carol Helgren and husband Rodney of Elgin, and numer- ous nieces and nephews. Don was diagnosed with prostate cancer 22 months ago and fought a valiant battle right up to the end. Don served in the Air Force from 1971 to 1974 and was stationed at Brooks AFB in San Antonio. He embarked on many careers during his life with his last one at Leif Johnson Truck City Ford in Buda where he was a ser- vice advisor. He made many friends there as well as earn- ing the respect and admira- tion of many of his custom- ers. He was a past member of the Manchaca Optimist Club and served as President in 1995. He was also actively involved in the Manchaca baseball program when his sons were growing up and served as coach as well as commissioner for many years. He was a member of the Capitol Rod & Gun Club in Spicewood for the past 20 years and had so many won- derful friends and good times on Lake Travis. He desperate- ly wanted to stay and watch his grandchildren grow and they will miss their "PawPaw" so much. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to "Zero Prostate Can- cer" race sponsored by Urol- ogyAustin. Send donations to ZPCR - Austin, PO Box 320852, Alexandria, VA 22320 and indicate on the check "In memory of Don Moore." A Celebration of Don's life will be held Sunday, June 23rd from 2-5 at the Creedmoor Community Center. We will have a short presentation followed by food and fellow- ship. Don loved his Hawai- ian shirts so we would like to ask everyone to dress in their "Hawaiian Best!" www. MARTINEZ Federico Jasso Martinez, Sr., 88, died June 14, 2013. He was born April 2, 1925. Funeral services will be held Fri- day, June 21, 2013 at the Los Angeles Funeral Home in San Marcos. Visita- tion begins at 8 a.m.. with the services at 10 a.m. Burial in Reedville Cemetery will follow at 11 a.m. Martinez loved his grand- children, and the company of his loving wife, Cristo- balina Martinez. He started the day with a cup of coffee, and a hearty breakfast before spending hours outside talk- ing with his wife. Martinez loved to tinker and fix things - old lawn mowers, lamps, motors. Any old piece of junk left in the street, he tried to fix so he could give it to his neigh- bors, friends and family. He built all kinds of things for his wife. Anything she needed, porches, sheds, cages, it didn't matter. If she wanted it, he built it. He was never one to stay idle. He worked in the yard alongside his wife, picking up rocks, pulling weeds, planting jalapenos and to- matoes, trimming, mowing and cutting. He always loved a good argument, and he loved to joke. Most of the time. it seemed he understood his jokes because he was the only one laughing at them. If you spoke English. he only spoke Spanish. If you spoke Spanish. he only spoke Eng- lish. He left his fair share of confused servers at the local Mexican restaurants. He relished anytime kids came around. He was always kind and gentle with the little ones. He loved hearing them talk and call him grandpa. Back in the day, he was always passing out quarters to the kids; more recently it became dollars. He loved his kids with all of his heart, even on the days they made him angry. He was kind, smart, strong and forgiving. There is always an inher- ent sadness in losing a loved one - a sadness made deeper by the closeness of the one we lost. But the container of sad- ness is filled with oceans of memories. He had 88 wonder- ful years of life, 33 of which were spent by the side of the love of his life. Martinez joins his son Federico Jasso Martinez Jr. and stepson William Alemar. He leaves behind his wife, Cristobalina; chil- dren, Catarino, Teresa and Octoviano; step-children, To,,., c,o,,wo,d Sudok Solutio.
