When the group delivered the donated goods to the Hays County Food Bank, they learned their collection weighed 1,605 pounds. In the United States, the standard number of pounds in what's called a short ton is 2,000. So the honor society stu- dents collected more than three-quarters of a ton of food. "1 am very proud of our organization today. From conception to delivery, this was a completely student-run project. It i.s Smith's second consecutive year to earn a place in the competitive auditions for the Region Orchestra.
